About West Coast Property Developments | Lifestyle Estates West Coast | Coastal Estates West Coast

The West Coast Region is located along the South-West Coast of South Africa within the Western Cape Province. It extends from Blaauwberg in the Cape Metropolitan Area in the south, to the provincial border in Namaqualand in the north.

The West Coast Region borders on the Winelands District in the south, the Breede River District in the east, and the Northern Cape Province in the north and east. On the west, the region borders on the Atlantic Ocean, with its cold Benguela Current, which plays in important role in the ecology of the region.

West Coast Economic Development Proposals   Mail Print PDF West Coast Economic Development Proposals
The West Coast could see major development of its public transport system and oil and gas industries, it was revealed at a recent quarterly members meeting of business-led think tank Accelerate Cape Town.

Lundy said it was important to see the area stretching from Cape Town to Saldanha and up to Worcester, and not only the Cape Town CBD, as the main economic zone in the province. Three speakers gave presentations on future development of the West Coast. Kylie Hatton, media manager for the City of Cape Town, shared information about the City’s new Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) System route to connect the West Coast to Cape Town. South African Oil and Gas Alliance (Saoga) executive director Warwick Blyth spoke in his personal capacity about opportunities in upstream activities (exploration, drilling, production and support services) in the oil and gas sectors on the West Coast. Economist Jacyntha Maclennan, senior manager of Wesgro IQ, the Western Cape Investment and Trade Promotion Agency’s economic intelligence unit, spoke about trade and investment opportunities in the West Coast and the feasibility study she was overseeing for provincial government into setting up an Industrial Development Zone (IDZ), the South African version of a free zone, on the West Coast.

Property Boom to hit West Coast   Mail Print PDF Property Boom to hit West Coast
The property boom that has taken the coastal areas of Cape Town, the Overberg and surrounding areas by storm looks set to spread to the West Coast as investors begin to discover this relatively underexposed coastline.

"The coastal towns along the West Coast are set to take over from the towns on the South Coast such as Hermanus, as the holiday destination of choice," says Emil Weiss of Century 21 West Coast. There has been extensive growth in developments in these areas, but the international market hasn't yet discovered property along the West Coast. Commenting on property prices in the areas along the West Coast, Julian Day, franchise owner of Century 21 West Coast, says: "We operate in well-known towns, such as Langebaan and st Helena, which have a high percentage of secondary holiday homes, as well as in areas such as Saldanha, Velddrif and Vredenburg, which are primarily residential. The areas along the West Coast were largely either holiday or retirement homes, but we're seeing a shift in this trend, as people are now travelling from Langebaan to Cape Town every day.
