The Entwood Village Estate is situated on an increasingly rare and endangered highveld vegetation. Bankenveld is recognised by the South African National Botanical Institute as a priority area for conservation. This ultra-low density estate will assist in preserving and protecting the area from the progressing urban sprawl. The development will transform approximately 20 hectares of land. To avoid transforming pristine veld, the developer has selected areas that have been degraded by alien invasive species. The remainder of the property – approximately 480 hectares (95%) – will be dedicated to conservation and the northern portion integrated with the adjacent wildlife sanctuary.

The award winning and internationally recognised Klipkop Wildlife Sanctuary hosts around 400 head of game, 450 vegetative species, nearly 200 avian species, as well as countless small mammals, reptiles and amphibians. The extraordinary biodiversity is attributable to the variety of habitats found within the reserve, including ridge, riverine, bushveld and grassland. The area is blessed with 6 km of streams crossing 35 ha of perennial wetlands.

• Klipkop Wildlife Sanctuary is a member of the Wildlife Land Trust (WLT). The Wildlife Land Trust, established by the Humane Society of the United States, is an international network of sanctuaries dedicated to wildlife and habitat protection - “Saving lives, by saving land”.

• Klipkop Wildlife Sanctuary received two provincial conservation awards in 2009: The Endangered Wildlife Trust’s (EWT) Best Biodiversity Practice for a Gauteng Conservancy, and a Silver Award for Wetlands Management.

CULTURAL HERITAGE

The greater Bronberg area has a rich history and important archaelogical sites throughout. The Bronberg was the main living area of the Manala (Ndebele) stretching from the ridge, over the Pienaars River towards Donkerhoek (Diamond Hill) and further east and south. Unfortunately, many of these sites have been destroyed through development.

Late Iron Age sites associated with the Manala Ndebele can still be found on Farm Klipkop. According to provincial government assessment, these sites are considered the most important pre-historic settlement sites in the whole of the Tshwane region.
